Texas Hill Country and Guadalupe River Fishing Report Fall 2018

After a hot, dry summer, The Texas Hill Country has received some much needed rainfall over the last several weeks. Too much rain in some areas with devastating flooding on the Llano River near Junction. The San Marcos and Guadalupe Rivers fished well over the Summer but the lack of rain put a damper on the action. Certain stretches of the Guadalupe that normally produce excellent Bass fishing were too low to float in a raft. However, recent rains have rivers flowing and fishing is excellent. Cooler temps have Bass in the mood to eat. Productive patterns include larger Baitfish, Crawfish and topwater bugs. Its a great time of year to target Bass in the Hill Country!

Canyon Lake is getting very close to conservation pool of 909ft which bodes well for flows during the upcoming Trout season on the Guadalupe. The Guadalupe is flowing nicely at 96cfs, which is higher than we’ve seen for the majority of the last year but still below historical median of 150cfs. Although we had low flows over the Summer, there are a good amount of large Holdover Trout in the river which have produced some awesome fishing this Fall. Water temps are currently in the low to mid 60s. The river will be re-stocked with Trout starting in November. Trout fishing obviously gets better with stockings but new food in the river gets monster Stripers in the mood to eat. November and December are prime time to catch a true river monster. Its shaping up to be another great season on the Guadalupe!
